News from the Sports Master
This has been an incredibly busy week for many, particularly for our Year 5&6 pupils. Last weekend saw the U10A&B teams  travel to Weymouth and the U11B team travel to North Devon on Cricket tour. By all accounts both tours were a huge success with all teams returning home unbeaten. All pupils behaved and competed excellently and showed how good both on and off they field they can be. The pupils who did not travel on tour did not miss out as they traveled to Longridge in Marlow for two days of outward bounds activities and camping. Pupils enjoyed  a whole range of different activities from - kayaking, raft building, sailing, water zorbing, giant swinging, climbing, dragon boating, bell boating, go karting and leap of faith. It really was an action packed weekend for all of Year 5&6. This week the the U10 & U11A,B&C teams took on the very strong Oratory Prep school. All pupils performed well but it was clear that some were still a little jetlagged from tour. The U10B&C teams performed extremely well both recording convincing wins against strong opposition.

News from the Chess Master
We have been working hard on our notation this week and I am pleased to see the progress being made by the boys. Mistakes still happen but, like all things, practice makes perfect; and it is a pleasure observing how greater care is being taken over games. Boys who started the year playing at a hundred miles an hour are now considering each move, simply because they now have to take time to notate. I have been talking to the boys about check-lists and what to look for every move:
1. Piece safety (are any of your pieces in danger?)
2. Threats (can your opponent play a fork/skewer/pin/discovered attack next move?)
3. Hanging pieces (are any of your opponent's pieces undefended?)
4. Checks (can I play any checks?)
5. Over-worked pieces (are any of my opponent's pieces trying to do too many things?)
Clearly this is not an exhaustive list, but it's a good way to start.
Our Summer Tournament 3/7/17
We are up to 27 entries for the tournament. Entry forms are available from the Chess noticeboard and the entry fee is £1.

Rabbits
The Rabbit winners this week are Christian Bradley and Nyle Cohen. Christian has been spotted helping out a number of boys and staff members this week, and he always tries hard to be his best self. Nyle has been very kind and thoughtful to his peers, helping out those who are in need of a good friend. Both boys are worthy winners of the Rabbit award this week.
