NEWS FROM THE SPORTSMASTER

Welcome back to the cricket term. Cricket training has now started for all year groups and fixtures for Years 4, 5 & 6 start next week. As always you can check the cricket fixtures through the school website.   You should also have received a fixture card this week via boy post. As the fine weather is returning please can we ensure that all Games bags are packed with a cap, sun tan cream and a water bottle.

Athletics practices also start next week. In addition to after school athletics on Mondays there will be a lunchtime practice for Year 4, Year 5 on a Tuesday and Year 6 on a Thursday. Pupils may also be invited to a specialist relay practice in the future and this will be on a Friday lunchtime. Initially the lunchtime practices will be open for anyone who would like to try and represent the school this year. As the athletics competitions draw near these lunchtime sessions will be for the selected athletics squad.

NEWS FROM THE CHESS MASTER

The Lent term tournament
Thank you to all those who helped to make our 50th Claires Court Chess Tournament such a success: Mr Dennis, Mrs Goford, Mrs Burch and Mrs Bintcliffe as well, of course, all those boys who took part.  Congratulations to Houning (Kida) Zhu for finishing first overall and being the Best U9, and to Téo Rybak on finishing second and Best U11.  Joshua Spanswick earned the U9 Runner up trophy as well as finishing third overall, with Nayan Popat as Runner up in the U11 group after winning a close play-off match with Alex Pearce.

The Best in Year medals were awarded to the following boys:
Year 6 - Alex Pearce
Year 5- Téo Rybak
Year 4 - Joshua Spanswick
Year 3 – (Kida) Houning Zhu
Year 2 - Ethan Olikara

Very well done indeed and £84 was raised for our 3 for 3 charities.

Delancey qualification
After totting up the results from the two internal tournaments we have run this term at Claires Court, I am now delighted to announce the following qualifiers for the County Megafinal to take place on Monday 1 May at the Downs School in Newbury.  They are:  Alex Pearce, Luke Byng-Maddick, Téo Ryback, Haider-Ali Baig, Samuel Jeffery, Nayan Popat, Theo Sullivan, Samuel Tschiesche, Josh Spanswick, Kida Zhu, Josh Sharma, Moksha Suriarachchi, Noah Olikara, Ethan Olikara and Aaran Hitschmann.

Those boys wishing to take up their place should go online at delanceyukschoolschesschallenge.com and enter our school code (10623). They will be glad to hear that as this is not a Claires Court event, school uniform is not required!

Maidenhead Junior Chess Congress
The Easter break did not mean that Chess was on holiday. The Maidenhead Junior Chess Congress, held here at Claires Court Junior Boys on Wednesday 12 April, saw a very strong group of players enter and offered an excellent warm-up for the Megafinal. Whilst Claires Court boys did not finish in the top three, I was pleased with the dedication shown. You improve your game by playing against strong opposition and learning from your mistakes!

MUSIC AND DRAMA NEWS
In an effort to timetable the peripatetic music and the Speech and Drama sessions fairly, to avoid pupils missing the same lesson / lunch session, we shall also rotate over different days if the teacher is in more than once a week. Therefore it is essential that you check the Music Timetable regularly so that your son has his music or words on the correct day.

RABBITS
Our Rabbit winners this week are Tommy Beever 4G and Jake Rogers 5V.  Tommy has had a brilliant attitude this week and has been very caring and helpful.  Jake has looked after his peers and strived to be his 'Best Self' on every level.  Both boys are worthy winners of the Rabbit award this week.
