Mrs Kirby's words Autumn week 2
Our first full week back has been full of lots of new opportunities and engaging activities (and maybe some tired pupils (and teachers, too!). It’s been wonderful to see so many pupils enjoying our after school activities and fixtures as well...

A message from the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians

I hope your children have enjoyed their first full week at school. It has certainly been very busy! It has been such a joy to be able to return to a more 'normal' routine in all of the Divisions, but we are aware that the pandemic is still very much with us, and will still have an impact on our operational work.

To that end, please can I ask you to read my note to parents with children in Year 7 and above which can be found here, which explains the school’s position with reference to vaccinating 12-15 year old children.

The Headteachers have plenty to report on so I will bid you farewell and wish you a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

Do you have a 2 year old?
Our newly refurbished Nursery School on the College site now accepts boys and girls from age 2.  This is offered on an all-year round basis.  Please call us to find out more on 01628 327710.

Artist of the Week
Please see attached gallery of our weekly artists. In our first week back Year 3 looked at collage work and the way in which works of art can tell stories and the Year 4-6’s have been completing Life Drawing exercises.

Chess
Welcome back to all our chess players! It was lovely to see so many sign up for our two clubs on Monday and Tuesday. Mrs Goford and I took the opportunity to introduce the boys to lichess.org and how this can be used to help them improve their chess skills. Indeed, some of our more experienced players should also be making sure they are working on their puzzle solving. Practice makes perfect. If Lichess is good enough for Magnus Carlsen...

By the time of going to press, several boys will have had their first lesson of the year with Mr Tuck. Whilst these lessons are currently oversubscribed, I would be delighted to hear from parents whose son would like to have these additional lessons. For those who do not know, Mr Tuck has been visiting Claires Court for many years, and has helped to train many of our Country and England players.

Maidenhead Junior Chess Club meets here at CCJB on Saturday mornings and offers a chance for games and discussion with several members of the Maidenhead Chess Club A-Team as well as other juniors. If you are popping along, I shall see you in the morning!

School Uniform
Now we are returning to ‘normal’ school, we are also returning to normal school uniform rules and as such a reminder that school blazers, caps and grey socks to be worn and shirts should be tucked in, proper school shoes not trainers, Claires Court sports kit only etc. Boys should arrive looking smart in their uniform every day, with their kit bag on sports days and will change into kit at the start of their sports activity and back into uniform at the close.

Reminders
Don’t forget to keep up-to-date with the school calendar - lots of information including term dates, payment portal and menus can be found on the parents page on our website.  The weekly bulletin is also emailed home to parents on the email addresses you have provided.
