A message from the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians

Thank you for your support and feedback over the past six weeks. It has been a busy and successful half term which has seen the re-introduction of many of the pleasures that we took for granted before Covid. For example, watching your children enjoy their sports fixtures, a comprehensive after school enrichment programme, school excursions - just a few of the ‘return to norm’ activities that enhance our educational support for your children.
Come Monday 21 June, we hope to see even more restrictions eased, for then we can invite you to join us in larger numbers at school for end of year celebrations. However, please ensure that your children if in Year 7 or above continue to take the Lateral Flow test over the half term break - 1 in 3 people with Covid have no symptoms, so it is crucial that we continue with this programme.

For our Year 11 and 13 pupils who have worked so hard under the new Covid affected regulations, they can reflect on their considerable efforts with pride, and most will be returning after a short break in June to take up their places on our Leadership and Playworker courses.

Whether you are venturing away for half term or staying at home, I hope you all enjoy a break that allows you to catch up on conversations with your children, rest and recuperate even if only for a short time, and spend precious moments with family and loved ones.

Best wishes
Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

Catering Provision after half term
In line with current Covid guidelines, we are pleased to announce the return of catering services and dining rooms from Monday 7 June. Please find the new menus on the website. The following services will commence:
  • Breakfast at College Avenue and Senior Boys. Pre-school care at Junior Boys and College Avenue are already benefiting from a breakfast service.
  • Morning breaks at College Avenue And Senior Boys.  Due to time constraints and the risk of mixing of bubbles, we request that both Junior Girls and Junior Boys bring in an appropriate nut free snack for break time, as it will not be possible to get everyone through the dining room in a timely manner for this break time service.
  • Lunch at all sites with virtually all choices of main meal, vegetarian/dietary options, salads, sandwiches, pasta, jacket potatoes, desserts and drinks.
Whilst our suppliers get used to the demands of hospitality reopening once again, we will endeavour to return favourites and new choices as soon as we can get them.

Finally, on a green note, after the introduction of water bottle filling fountains in 2019 we have saved in excess of 40,000 plastic bottles over the past year. Please be reminded, whilst cooler than usual at the moment, the weather is warming up, so do please send your child in with an appropriately named and refillable water bottle to keep their hydration levels up.

ALL YEAR GROUPS:

Combined Cadet Force (CCF) - extended deadline for completion of all enrolment forms Friday 4 June

We are pleased to inform you that while our initial focus was on Years 9 and 11, we have enough CCF places for any current Year 10 students who are keen to join. We recognise that Year 11 is an important year, so please discuss with your son/daughter whether they feel they can commit to the CCF and manage their academic studies. In addition, as the CCF syllabus takes two years to complete, it would be more beneficial to students who were thinking about staying at Claires Court for Sixth Form.

If your son/daughter would like to enrol, please find the relevant form available to fill in online via the CCF Google Site. Please could we ask that all enrolment forms are completed by Friday 4 June.

Accelerated Read Reports

Your daughter's most recent Accelerated Reader Report has now been uploaded to the Parent Portal. Please login and you can find it under ‘Reports and Documents’, called Star Reader Parent Report. This provides information on Reading Age and Reading Range, ZPD Range from which girls should be selecting books for optimal growth in reading. There will be a final fourth assessment in July. Please also look at the ‘Renaissance Home Connect Informational Letter’ from October 2020. This provides information about the ‘Home Connect’ service, which allows you to see what books your daughter has read and her book quiz scores.

Year 11 Senior Girls Final Assembly

Well done to our Year 11 girls for making it through! For those staying with us in Sixth Form, we very much look forward to seeing you around next academic year, and for those moving onto pastures new, we wish you the very best.  We do hope our parents managed to view the final assembly at 3pm online today but a recording will also be emailed home to you.

Year 11 Parent Feedback Sessions - Deadline for responses is TODAY Friday 28 May
We are so very proud of the pupils in Year 11 and are very much looking forward to celebrating with them on Friday 28 May. We are always looking to improve on the education and experiences we provide for all pupils at Claires Court and with that in mind Mr Richards and Mrs Ruddick would like to welcome parents of pupils in Year 11 at Senior Girls to book a time with them for a 1:1 meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to provide a time for parents to pass on their constructive feedback to the school, as well as providing an opportunity for parents to share opinions, feelings and perceptions on school based activities. We have run similar meetings with both Year 7 and Year 8 parents this term and the feedback has been invaluable. If you are interested in booking a time slot for a virtual meet, please email Mrs Phipps hep@clairescourt.net by Friday 28 May.

Year 11 Prom - Lillibrooke Manor - Wednesday 30 June
Please find the poster for the Year 11 Prom taking place at Lillibrooke Manor on Wednesday 30 June. Payment of £35 via the payment portal and completion of this booking form is required ASAP to confirm your place (and by 8 June at the latest). Parents are welcome to attend between 7pm and 8pm for an arrival drink on the lawn. We must of course attach an enormous caveat to all of this. If the situation with Covid 19 worsens and the next round of restrictions are not lifted, or delayed, we may have to review whether the event can go ahead. We very much hope we don't get there but if we do, we will give a full refund for the event.
