A message from the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians

While we wait patiently for the cessation of restrictions on May 17, school is very much in flow and the introduction of sports fixtures last week was warmly welcomed… even though our first competitive match for nearly 14 months ended with rain stopping play after 8 overs!

Please can I relay this important message - if your child is feeling unwell in the morning before going to school, please do not send them in if they have a temperature, or any of the other array of symptoms that Covid-19 can be associated with. We are working very hard to protect our community from the spread of this dreadful virus, and while numbers in the area are low, we have had a case of Covid-19 in the school this week. Thankfully, our safety measures have ensured that only one other person has had to isolate, but it does remind us that the use of Lateral Flow Tests for our staff and senior pupils, as well as all other control measures, are vitally important.

On a lighter note, it has been wonderful to hear the sound of musical instruments being played at school. Our Peripatetic music teachers have been delighted to return to school. I’ve heard the sound of trumpets, guitars, drums… and even the odd voice too!

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

ALL YEAR GROUPS:

Lateral Flow Tests

Your son should be bringing home a pack of seven Lateral Flow Tests from school today. If he does not, please remind him! If he is not in school today, please ask him to see Mrs Tarr to collect a pack next week.

Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Parent Information Evening - Tuesday 18 May 7pm
We would like to invite you to our virtual CCF Parent Information Evening being held on Tuesday 18 May via the Meet Link. This is an opportunity to find out more about the new CCF and to ask any questions you may have (letter). The event is primarily aimed at parents of our first cohort (current Year 9 and Year 11 pupils), but anyone may attend as other year groups will have the opportunity to join at some point in the near future.

The Big Ask - Deadline for completion 19 May
The deadline for taking part in ‘The Big Ask’ is Wednesday 19 May. The adult survey is temporarily suspended due to technical issues, but please do encourage your son to share his views in the pupil survey. The new Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, aims to find out children’s concerns and aspirations about the future to identify barriers preventing children reaching their potential, put forward solutions and set ambitious goals for the country to achieve.

No Nuts Please
Just a gentle reminder that the school operates a ‘no nut policy’ (including nut related products) in your son's packed lunch/snack box. We do have a number of pupils and staff who are allergic to nuts. Thank you.

Fixtures and Games
Team sheets will be emailed to boys and parents in advance of fixtures, but can also be checked at https://www.clairescourtsport.com/ using the password CCsport2020. A reminder that your son should bring with him suncream, warm clothing, a waterproof and/or change of clothes as required according to the weather conditions.

YEAR 9 ONLY:

Year 9 Parent Information Evening - 6pm Thursday 13 May

Please join Mr Wilding and Mrs Selzer for a virtual Information Evening at 6pm on Thursday 13 May using this MEET link to discuss the arrangements for transitioning to teaching of GCSE Option subjects.

Year 9 immunisations - Consent Form Deadline 19 May
There are a small number of outstanding consent forms for the Year 9 Meningococcal ACWY & Diphtheria and Polio Booster immunisations taking place on 26 May (letter). Those who have not completed a consent would have received a direct email about this yesterday. Please complete it at your earliest convenience using the school code BK110153B.

If you do not wish for your child to be vaccinated, please still complete a consent form online but as a ‘non-consent’. If you experience any problems accessing the form, please telephone 0300 365 0077 and the Berkshire Immunisations team will be happy to help you.

YEAR 11 ONLY:

Year 11 & 13 Parent Briefing MEET - Tuesday 11 May 6pm

Briefing with Mr Wilding, Mr Richards and Mrs Rogers to confirm the detail on the reporting of Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGS) and the U/T101events after half term. Please join using this link. Further information can be found in the Year 11 letter. Please note the deadline for completing the participation form to indicate which activities your son/daughter might be interested in has been extended to Thursday 13 May after the Parent Briefing.
