A message from the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians

While we wait patiently for the cessation of restrictions on May 17, school is very much in flow and the introduction of sports fixtures last week was warmly welcomed… even though our first competitive match for nearly 14 months ended with rain stopping play after 8 overs!

Please can I relay this important message - if your child is feeling unwell in the morning before going to school, please do not send them in if they have a temperature, or any of the other array of symptoms that Covid-19 can be associated with. We are working very hard to protect our community from the spread of this dreadful virus, and while numbers in the area are low, we have had a case of Covid-19 in the school this week. Thankfully, our safety measures have ensured that only one other person has had to isolate, but it does remind us that the use of Lateral Flow Tests for our staff and senior pupils, as well as all other control measures, are vitally important.

On a lighter note, it has been wonderful to hear the sound of musical instruments being played at school. Our Peripatetic music teachers have been delighted to return to school. I’ve heard the sound of trumpets, guitars, drums… and even the odd voice too!

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

Student Finance Deadline Reminder - Friday 21 May 2021
Please be aware that the deadline for Student Finance, so that students have loans in place for the start of the Autumn university term, is Friday 21 May 2021.

Applications may be made after this time but loans cannot be guaranteed to be available by the start of term. Students can apply for finance even if they haven't received all of their replies from universities, or if they haven't replied to their offers. Students need to nominate a university but this can be changed at a later date. You can apply for finance here. The “Student Finance” presentation from the March Y13 parents meet can also be found here. This should answer any questions you have about which loans are available, how they are calculated and their eventual repayment.

#Stay Connected 2.7
#Stay Connected 2.7 will be available to you from today.

Students and parents should always check this - it is a one stop shop for all the latest information on unis/apprenticeships/jobs. This week’s edition has information on the benefits of eating a vegetarian meal once a week, under 18s voting in local elections, lots of apprenticeship opportunities and virtual work experience. If students miss seeing this, they could miss out on lots of vital information.

Year 13 workshops from 14 June and Teacher Assessed grades
Please do check your inboxes for two important letters which were shared with you this week. The first one was regarding the optional Year 13 workshops from 14 June which will be available to all Year 13 students to prepare them for their next steps. It also included information on the Farewell to Year 13 on Thursday 1 July and the Sparkling Afternoon Tea on Friday 2 July which really did not ought to be missed!

This is our chance to say Goodbye to Year 13, and we really would like them all to be there. Students have been given the option to sign up to the sessions with the google form shared with them this week - the deadline is Friday 7 May. Please can you persuade them to complete it if they haven't already.

The second letter contained information on Teacher Assessed grades and more about this may be heard in the parent meet as in the paragraph above, on Tuesday 11 May at 6pm.
