A message from the Executive Head

Dear Parents and Guardians
As this most unusual term draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention several pieces of news before we break for the Easter holidays.

We have had two positive cases of Covid-19 within our school community this term, both of which have occurred this week. No amount of rigorous and carefully planned societal or school safety control measures can sometimes prevent the transmission of Covid-19, and it serves as a stark reminder that we are far from ‘out of the woods’ just yet with regard to the pandemic.

You will receive an end of term set of notifications from the Principals setting out financial and operational matters for the Summer Term next week. In these communications, we are setting out our plans moving forward in relation to all aspects of schooling. Please take the time to read these carefully.

Today we have shared with you a questionnaire to request feedback on our current lunch provision for your children. Your responses will help guide us as we start the process of opening up the kitchens on a wider scale, once Covid restrictions allow. You can find the survey here. Please return this survey by 4pm on Tuesday 30 March. On the topic of food, we are trialing ‘Meat Free Monday’ after the Easter break, and our Eco team has written to you in this bulletin to explain their motivation to see this scheme succeed.

Our bus service will return to the ‘late’ timings that were used before the first Lockdown. In other words, buses will leave the Senior Boys site for onward travel at 5.30pm with the exception of Friday where they leave at 4.30pm. Our after school activity programme will therefore be able to run at its full capacity and give your children so much sort after enrichment experiences. There is no facility for parents to sign their children up to activities until the first day of the new term, as we are obliged to wait for any changes in the Covid restrictions before confirming the choices available. However, our activity intentions will be shared in the coming days for your children to choose from. Full details of the school day and the activity programme will be found with the Principals words next week.

The DfE has guided us towards continuous testing of Year 7-13 pupils and all staff on all sites throughout the Easter break. Test kits and instructions are being distributed today and early next week to ensure that we comply with these arrangements.

I will leave you with words from the Divisional Headteachers. Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes
Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

Meat Free Mondays
Hello, we are the ‘Make a Difference’ group - an Eco group at Claires Court with members from Senior Boys, Senior Girls and Sixth Form. Our aim is to implement projects at Claires Court to improve our local community and global environment - to make a difference.

All the divisions at Claires Court have a good track record for improving their environmental impact, and during lockdown we have been working together to see if we can have a bigger impact. From the Summer Term we are starting an initiative which will involve the whole school. We want to encourage our Claires Court community to reduce the amount of meat they eat. This has many benefits: individuals health benefits, reducing climate change, helping our global community to be sustainable, and reduce world hunger. And so we will begin Meat Free Mondays.

All meals provided at the school on a Monday will be meat free. We hope that students who bring a packed lunch will also join in. And perhaps whole families will go entirely meat free on a Monday - a small change will make a big difference.

Kind Regards,
The Make a Difference Team

Summer Term Lunches
Please find our new menus for the Summer term. We will continue with the ‘takeaway style’ hot lunch, in order to adhere to the DfE guidelines of maintaining social distancing and year group bubbles, but will revert to our usual dining arrangements as soon as we are able to safely reopen our dining rooms.

All lunch bookings will roll over into next term, so you only need to do something if you wish to make a change to your child’s current lunch booking (help document). However, if your child has any form of dietary requirements, we do need you to check and update the information we hold on the Report Portal, as this is how the kitchens are aware of any dietary needs. Please do this by going to ‘Child Details’, then select ‘Medical Information’ and dietary needs can be found under ‘Conditions and Allergies’.

ALL YEAR GROUPS:

Tuesday 30 March
The last day of the Lent term is a full school day.  We wish you an enjoyable Easter and look forward to seeing the girls back at school on Wednesday 21 April.
