It was Socrates who called education ‘the kindling of a flame, rather than the filling of a vessel’. As educators at Junior Boys, we strive to ignite that flame in our pupils, and create a lifelong love of learning with breadth and...

A message from the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians

With the school currently going through its appeal to build a new school, I thought it would be appropriate to share with you a picture that one of our parents sent to me this morning from the Junior Boys school driveway. A beautiful picture…and absolutely freezing! We will update you on any outcomes from the appeal process as soon as we hear anything.

Thank you so much to the hundreds of you who have responded to our questionnaire regarding after school activities and school transport. If you’ve not yet had the chance to complete this form, please do so by 9pm on Sunday evening. Your feedback will help inform our plans and I will be able to confirm next week the arrangements for the Lent term.

We are also inviting our peripatetic teachers back into school in January. It will be lovely to have the sound of musical instruments filling our hallways once again, and I know the Heads of Music are delighted at this prospect.

We are hoping to be able to support our local Food Share, and I am aware some of you have already sent in items that will go to those in need this Christmas. We are currently establishing with our local charity groups if they are allowed to accept food parcels in light of the Covid-19 crisis - hopefully they can, and we will let you know next week. On the subject of food, I am pleased to say that all pupils will have the opportunity to have a traditional Christmas lunch this year (with crackers!) - electronic forms are included below:

I can also provisionally confirm we are intending to run a short holiday camp programme before Christmas, depending of course on any restrictions that tend to emerge overnight! We’ll share details shortly.

Have a lovely weekend, and please stay safe.

Best wishes

Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

Christmas music videos

Reminder, following our letter last week, please record your child’s musical performance in landscape and email to Mrs Stevenson at evs@clairescourt.net by Friday 4 December. The video recordings don’t have to be long, you can either do a full piece or part of a piece and preferably Christmas themed. Don't forget the Christmas jumper!

Carol service Years 3 to 6
Our much loved joint Carol Service between the Junior Boys and Junior Girls will also be different this year. We will be recording the Christmas songs next week and would ask that you encourage your children to learn their Christmas songs. All repertoire has been placed in their Music Google Classroom ready for practising at home. We look forward to sharing the performances with you towards the end of term.

From the Chess Master
Two exciting pieces of news this week. Firstly, we are looking for volunteers from the four houses to play in the house chess competition, to take place in the final week of term. If you would like to play, please give your name and your house to your form teacher. Hopefully, we shall have lots of people looking to play.

Secondly, the UK Delancey Chess challenge is back, and I will be running the first round through the Claires Court chess club. In order to do this, I shall need those boys wishing to take part to sign up for a free lichess account. Once they have done this, they will need to share their ID with me (rih@clairescourt.net) and I will add them to our tournament. No external players will be able to access our tournament area, so do make sure you have given me your son's details so I can add him.
