Mr Richards' Words Week 8
Mr Richards' Words Week 8
This week we have had a focus on remembrance. Mrs Bullough treated us to a fantastic assembly on the needless waste of life through the entirety of the First World War but particularly in the final days. She turned on her Radio 4 prose for us and...

A message for the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians

My daughter asked me the following ill-fated question on Monday morning: “Dad, what do you actually do all week?!” Slightly bemused, I could only answer her with a feeble:”It’s difficult to say, it changes hourly!”

And indeed it does. Being at the mercy of the fluctuating Department for Education (DfE) guidance about which opportunities we can and cannot offer your children is frustrating, as it means we are constantly being reactive rather than proactive with many of our school strategies. Whilst we do this we will always maintain our school values, and in doing this, our staff, pupils and parents know that we continue to do the best we can for all of our families.

One of the developments that cannot go unnoticed since the first lockdown in March is the increase in use of IT by your children for educational purposes. This briefing note, which has been provided by James Wilding, Academic Principal, on IT security and filtering will be of interest to you all and ensures everyone’s cyber safety. Please take time to read it carefully.

I was present at the remarkable two minute silence the College Avenue site gave for Remembrance Day. The pupils from all divisions spread across the school fields, the mist lowering onto the grass in the freezing morning air, and the lonely sound of Mr Gravett’s exquisitely played trumpet with the ‘The Last Post’ cutting through the chill...it was a moment that I will never forget, and I am sure the pupils will remember it for many years to come.

Enough from me, please stay safe and enjoy your weekend.

Best wishes

Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

New campus
Our long and eagerly-awaited planning inquiry for the development of the Ridgeway site is nearly upon us, and we are calling for your help and support. The inquiry will be held online by an independent planning inspector from 18 November for eight days.

As we celebrate our diamond jubilee in our 60th year, we would dearly love to cement our plans to bring us all together at one purpose-built, future-proof campus fit for our quality teaching and the families we care so much about. Letters of support for the plans are welcomed by the inspector and help form a good picture of all the significant benefits arising from our plans that will so positively affect a wide-range of people in our community. More information is being sent to all our families and friends, so we do hope you can help us and show your support and write to: tim.salter@planninginspectorate.gov.uk by: Wednesday 17 November 2020. Include the relevant planning references in your subject line (or at the top of your email):

Apologies but for the time being the PTA will not be holding any nearly new sales.  We will let you know as soon as they are able to do so.

Flu Vaccinations - Monday 7 December - G7
Have you completed the vaccination form for your daughter to receive the flu vaccination yet?  Please find an e-consent form (you will be asked for the school code which is BK110153G) and information about the flu vaccination.  The e-consent form will close on Friday 4 December at 12noon but would appreciate this completed asap as the NHS School Nursing Team need to know how many vaccines are required.

A message from the School Libraries... Do you have an overdue library book?!
After wisely stockpiling our reading during Lockdown #1 it is now time to return these library books to the relevant school site. Please make sure all books issued during the previous school year (Sep 19 to Mar 20) are returned to avoid a book charge. Returning a book is easy! Just leave them in one of the safe Library book returns boxes on each school site.

All library books issued this term can be retained and renewed, as required. Thank you.

Uniform
There is a new addition to the Senior Girls uniform, grey trousers. These are a set style and can only be purchased from our uniform stockist Goyals for £25.  These can be worn throughout the school year from Autumn to Summer so the choice is there for the girls.

Please remember that blazers must be worn to school. Pupils can wear their school jumper too but this is to be worn as well as a blazer and not instead of a blazer.

Our classrooms must be ventilated, so will have their doors and windows kept open and some will get chilly. We will continue to heat them but please layer up and stay warm; you can do this whilst still taking pride in the uniform.

Headteacher and parent online surgery - Tuesday mornings 9.15am-10.15am
Please contact Helen Phipps at hep@clairescourt.com if you wish to meet with Mr Richards on a Tuesday morning (a time slot and link for you to join can then be emailed to you). He is happy to help with any issues or concerns during this surgery, equally, he also loves to hear when things are going well.
