| | From the Office | A message for the Executive Head
Dear Parents and Guardians
My daughter asked me the following ill-fated question on Monday morning: “Dad, what do you actually do all week?!” Slightly bemused, I could only answer her with a feeble:”It’s difficult to say, it changes hourly!”
And indeed it does. Being at the mercy of the fluctuating Department for Education (DfE) guidance about which opportunities we can and cannot offer your children is frustrating, as it means we are constantly being reactive rather than proactive with many of our school strategies. Whilst we do this we will always maintain our school values, and in doing this, our staff, pupils and parents know that we continue to do the best we can for all of our families.
One of the developments that cannot go unnoticed since the first lockdown in March is the increase in use of IT by your children for educational purposes. This briefing note, which has been provided by James Wilding, Academic Principal, on IT security and filtering will be of interest to you all and ensures everyone’s cyber safety. Please take time to read it carefully.
I was present at the remarkable two minute silence the College Avenue site gave for Remembrance Day. The pupils from all divisions spread across the school fields, the mist lowering onto the grass in the freezing morning air, and the lonely sound of Mr Gravett’s exquisitely played trumpet with the ‘The Last Post’ cutting through the chill...it was a moment that I will never forget, and I am sure the pupils will remember it for many years to come.
Enough from me, please stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
Best wishes
Justin Spanswick

New campus
Our long and eagerly-awaited planning inquiry for the development of the Ridgeway site is nearly upon us, and we are calling for your help and support. The inquiry will be held online by an independent planning inspector from 18 November for eight days.
As we celebrate our diamond jubilee in our 60th year, we would dearly love to cement our plans to bring us all together at one purpose-built, future-proof campus fit for our quality teaching and the families we care so much about. Letters of support for the plans are welcomed by the inspector and help form a good picture of all the significant benefits arising from our plans that will so positively affect a wide-range of people in our community. More information is being sent to all our families and friends, so we do hope you can help us and show your support and write to: tim.salter@planninginspectorate.gov.uk by: Wednesday 17 November 2020.
