Executive Head Teacher words
Dear Parents and Guardians

We have made it to half term - thank you for all of your support over the past six weeks and beyond.

If any local or national restrictions regarding Covid-19 emerge over the half term period, I will contact you to ensure you are kept up-to-date on if/how they affect your children's education at Claires Court. Here's hoping that I don't have to contact you!

In the meantime, please stay safe and enjoy your break.

Best wishes

Justin Spanswick
Executive Head Teacher

New campus
Our long and eagerly-awaited planning inquiry for the development of the Ridgeway site is nearly upon us, and we are calling for your help and support. The inquiry will be held online by an independent planning inspector from 18 November for eight days.

As we celebrate our diamond jubilee in our 60th year, we would dearly love to cement our plans to bring us all together at one-purpose-built, future-proof campus fit for our quality teaching and the families we care so much about. Letters of support for the plans are welcomed by the inspector and help form a good picture of all the significant benefits arising from our plans that will so positively affect a wide-range of people in our community. More information is being sent to all our families and friends, so we do hope you can help us and show your support and write to: tim.salter@planninginspectorate.gov.uk by: Wednesday 17 November 2020. Include the relevant planning references in your subject line (or at the top of your email):

Sixth Form wider reading list
The Sixth Form wider reading list has been shared with all students and will also be shared with you before the holidays. The booklet was created to help students research further into their chosen fields of study, and also to learn more about the world around us. This is incredibly useful for those Year 13 students who wish to add more academic references to their personal statements for university, and for Year 12 who will never again be able to claim they have “no work” to do in supervised study.

University of Hertfordshire personal statement conferences
Feeling a bit stuck with your university application? Whatever stage you’re at, we’d like to invite you to our Sixth Form Personal statement conference. During the week of 26 October 2020 you'll get tips on how to structure your personal statement and hear from some of our academics about what they are looking for. If you’re required to attend an interview, you’ll get some tips on what else they’d like to know about you.
As well as personal statement advice, we’ll also be running sessions on a variety of university topics, such as the application process, student finance and more.  All sessions will include an opportunity for Q&A and will be taking place on Zoom, so you can enjoy them from the comfort of your own home. The programme for the week is online and you can book whichever sessions you’ll find useful here.

Get in touch
If you have any questions or if you’re unsure which personal statement session would be right for you, please email readyforuni@herts.ac.uk and the team will be happy to help.
