MR RICHARDS' WORDS LENT 7 |

Environmentally friendly water dispensers
We are committed to playing our part in reducing our carbon footprint and creating good environmentally-friendly practices in our school community. We have recently installed new fresh water dispensers across all our schools and we are stopping our use of bottled water, which will save approximately 25,000 bottles a year – this is one tonne of plastic and will save 1.5 tonnes of carbon.
Please bring re-usable water bottles to school to use.
Important information about coronavirus (covid-19)
Public Health England have released additional advice for people returning from certain areas in Italy.
People who have returned from one of the ‘lock down’ areas in Northern Italy are told to self-isolate on their return to the UK, even if they have no symptoms. The two regions concerned are Lombardy (Milan) and Veneto (Venice). People returning from other areas north of, but not including Pisa, Florence and Rimini, should self-isolate if they develop symptoms.
Both should contact NHS 111 or visit the Public Health England website for more information. This website is updated periodically and should any advice change that affects our school, staff or pupils, we will let you know.
If you have any questions about our response to the Public Health England’s guidance, please contact Justin Spanswick, Executive Headteacher on 01628 327717.
We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and, if appropriate, provide updates.

News from the Chess Master
The Lent term tournament will be held on Monday 23 March from 1:30pm to 5pm. Entry forms are now available from the Chess noticeboard or there is a copy attached for printing.
I spent some time working with some of the Year 2 boys this week. I was trying to encourage them to look after their pieces and introduced them to a game called Sudden Death.
"Sudden Death"
The game ends if a player completes a turn and they are behind in material (‘points’) – in this case they lose the game. For example 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nxe5 Nxe5 and whatever white now moves he will be behind on material and will lose the game. Don’t expect many games to last very long – so maybe best out of three is a good idea!
Try this with your son and see how they get on!
Remember:
Queen = 9
Rook = 5
Knight = 3
Bishop = 3
Pawn = 1 |
