SPORTS FIXTURES AND RESULTS
Checkmate at the PTA Chess FestivalCheckmate at the PTA Chess Festival

The annual PTA Chess Festival was the 19th time Claires Court has hosted a London qualifying event and, needless to say with the help of our PTA and other volunteers, it proved to be another successful event!
Becoming Roman Legionaries

An exciting visit to Ufton Court saw Year 3 boys travel back in time to the Roman Empire where they learnt all about its impact on Celtic Britain.

News from the Sports Master
With winter weather really starting to set in please can all pupils' Games and PE bags contain a full school tracksuit.

This week we have had some very close U9 and U11 rugby fixtures against Oratory Prep School and Davenies. It is fantastic to see all players continuing to make really positive progress.

On Friday 15th November, a team from Claires Court travelled to Aldershot for the ISA Regional Swimming Finals, having qualified at the regional heats in October. A team of 12 represented Junior Boys (along with teams from the Junior Girls and Senior Schools), with the following boys swimming in individual events:

Ewan Garrett
Joshua Notton-Brown
Toby Carter
George Norris

All the boys swam superbly, having done brilliantly to get to this stage, with George Norris coming a fantastic 3rd overall in the 50m Freestyle. Our relay teams performed well once again, with our year 6 team coming second overall. A superb result against some very strong swimming schools. Considering they are not used to swimming in a VERY deep (over 3.5m) and long (50m) pool, not to mention having to dive from blocks, they demonstrated great resilience and courage and were a credit to the school.

The relay teams were as follows:

Year 4
Ewan Garrett
Leo Da Cunha
Max Terry
Oliver Rendall

Year 5
Joshua Notton-Brown
Toby Carter
Jack Hinchy
Sam Robertson

Year 6
George Norris
Spike Stalham
Aaran Hitschmann
Ollie Raison

We are pleased to announce that George Norris has qualified to represent the region in the relay for the ISA Nationals.

News from the Chess Master
Saturdays' annual PTA Chess Festival was the 19th time Claires Court has hosted a London qualifying event and, needless to say with the help of our PTA and other volunteers, it proved to be another successful event.

By the time late entries had been added, we were pushing up towards 60 competitors. Accompanied by their parents, this made for a great day.

Whilst Claires Court led the way in the number of competitors from any one school, we were unable to turn this into a victory in the schools' competition due to the outstanding performance of some brothers from Southampton who pushed us into second.

The tournament field was extremely strong, but all the Claires court boys who played earned some good results against good players.

Thank you to all those who helped. Special mention goes to:
Louise Notton-Brown and the PTA
Nigel Dennis
Eileen Goford
