PTA Fright Night Disco
This year’s popular Fright Night Disco is taking place on Friday 8 November, from 5.30 to 7.30pm on the Junior Girls’ site. It’s an event not to be missed, with games and prizes... don’t forget to come in your best Halloween outfit! More information here.

Fireworks
After all the hard work to prepare for our annual Fireworks extravaganza, we were perhaps fortunate that overnight Friday/Saturday morning the weather was so foul that we were able to make a decision to cancel the event in good time, the fields being so flooded! Our butcher was able to keep the meat products in his cooler for use elsewhere, Rebellion took their draught beer back without cost and Star Fireworks are hoping to use our 12 minute display elsewhere too. Inevitably the PTA have borne the brunt of the fixed costs of the marquee and PA (circa £2500), and we’ll be working with the committees to see how best we can recover these funds too. The offices will be making contact over ticket refunds for those who had kindly bought tickets.

Creativity on Display at the ISA London West Art ExhibitionCreativity on Display at the ISA London West Art Exhibition

To quote Pablo Picasso ‘every child is an artist’ and our pupils certainly demonstrated their artistic prowess when their work was displayed at the ISA London West Art Exhibition at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts last week.
A Festival of Rugby

A Journey of Learning at Woolley FirsA Journey of Learning at Woolley Firs

Delving into their topic of ‘living things and habitats’ Year 1 and 2 boys spent a day getting hands on as they scoured the habitats at the Woolley Firs Environmental Education Centre.
News from the Chess Master
Last Friday saw Year 2 given a master class in chess tuition by our visiting Chess Coach Mr Tuck.

The boys played "Hungry Rook" and "Hungry Bishop" as they came to grips with processing and calculating - two important skills in the game of chess.
Mr Tuck was glowing with praise for the latent ability of the year group.

Any Year 2 parents who found their son interested in Chess and would like to pursue lessons should get in touch with me at rih@clairescourt.net.

Our 19th PTA Chess Festival fast approaches on Saturday 16 November. This tournament offers a route for qualification for the London Nationals and is well attended with competitors coming from around the country, though Claires Court boys have a very good track record in the competition.
Entry forms can be found on the Chess noticeboard or through the Maidenhead Junior Chess Club website.
