Fireworks
After all the hard work to prepare for our annual Fireworks extravaganza, we were perhaps fortunate that overnight Friday/Saturday morning the weather was so foul that we were able to make a decision to cancel the event in good time, the fields being so flooded! Our butcher was able to keep the meat products in his cooler for use elsewhere, Rebellion took their draught beer back without cost and Star Fireworks are hoping to use our 12 minute display elsewhere too. Inevitably the PTA have borne the brunt of the fixed costs of the marquee and PA (circa £2500), and we’ll be working with the committees to see how best we can recover these funds too. The offices will be making contact over ticket refunds for those who had kindly bought tickets.

Save the date - Senior Rugby Dinner!
This year’s rugby dinner will be held on Friday 13 December at Senior Boys from 7pm. The guest speaker will be Chris Cracknell, former pupil and England rugby union player, now coach for the Fiji women’s 7s team.
The event is open to parents and players from Years 10, 11, 12, and 13.  Tickets and more information will be released shortly. Look forward to seeing you there!

Early Buses - Thursday 7 November
Please note that there will be early buses because of the SG Open Afternoon and SB Open Evening on this date.

Grade Cards and Home study privilege
Autumn half term Grade Cards for Year 12 and Year 13 will be posted today. Also being posted with the Grade Cards will be a letter for Year 13s regarding a “Home Study” privilege. Year 13 students may apply for this, should they wish to, using the application form and the copy of their timetable, also enclosed.

Safe Drive, Stay Alive show
This is just a reminder that all the Sixth Form will be going to the Safe Dive, Stay Alive presentation at the Wycombe Swan on Tuesday 5 November. We will be leaving school at midday and returning by 3pm. Late lessons from 3.25pm will go ahead as normal.

Sixth Form lunch sitting
There will be a lunchtime sitting in the dining room for all Sixth Form who have study Periods 5/6 at 12.45pm. This will be on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Students who have lessons at this time will be able to have lunch at 1.15pm as normal.

Sixth Form Open Evening – Tuesday 12 November
Sixth Form Open Evening will be on Tuesday 12 November from 6pm-8pm. We are looking forward to showcasing our Sixth Form to all Claires Court pupils in Year 11 and to Year 11s from other local schools. Our own Sixth Form students are our best ambassadors for Sixth Form, and as such, all Sixth Form students will be expected to be present on this evening to help with tours and in subject rooms. Please can you put this date in your diaries.

Year 11 Sixth Form Taster morning - Wednesday 11 December
Wednesday 11 December will be the Sixth Form taster morning for our Year 11s. Year 12 students may use this day to do further work experience which will help with their UCAS or apprenticeship applications next year. Year 13 should use this day to work from home on their personal branding, e.g. by creating their own Linkedin profile. We will need some volunteers to come into school to help. Please see Mrs Rogers if you are interested in helping.

Professional qualifications – become a specialist in Microsoft Office
After half term, Sixth Form students will have the opportunity to take some professional qualifications to become a Microsoft Office specialist. Students may take qualifications in Word, Excel or Power point. Each package costs £75 which is half the usual price. Should this be required, the retake price will be £50. Please sign up with Mr Hope if you are interested in this. We hope to be able to offer Adobe professional qualifications in the Lent term.

Creativity on Display at the ISA London West Art Exhibition

To quote Pablo Picasso ‘every child is an artist’ and our pupils certainly demonstrated their artistic prowess when their work was displayed at the ISA London West Art Exhibition at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts last week.
