News from the Chess Master
I always feel great pride witnessing the success of our Claires Court pupils beyond the walls of our school and I am always keen to hear tell of tournaments boys have been playing in, in different parts of the country.
Congratulations go this week to
Henry Paw who placed 21st for his age group in the Regional Delancey Gigafinal and 2nd for the Berkshire East area. This is a superb achievement and we look forward to Henry's future conquests.
On Saturday 21 September the best U10 junior chess players in the country met once more to lock horns, this time at the Delancey Chess Terafinal, and
Josh Sharma was among their number. The venue was the Daventry Court Hotel in Daventry, and all players present had come through three previous rounds in order to earn their place. The first round for Josh had been here at Claires Court right back in February! Josh earned 5.5 points from 10 rounds - a highly commendable score.
Very well done, Josh!
Delancey qualifying begins again at Claires Court in the new year and all Claires Court Junior pupils are welcome to take part in our breaktime matches and/or our end of Lent Term tournament.
Our 19th PTA Chess Festival fast approaches on Saturday 16 November. This tournament offers a route for qualification for the London Nationals and is well attended with competitors coming from around the country, though Claires Court boys have a very good track record in the competition.
Entry forms can be found on the Chess noticeboard or through the
Maidenhead Junior Chess Club website.
