Last Thursday we had huge success in the swimming pool as our team from Year 4-6 competed against other local schools at the Maidenhead Marlins Swimming Gala. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils who performed superbly well to bring home the team trophy.
Saturday saw our U11A team travel to St Benedict’s in Ealing for a tournament winning some superb matches against St Benedict’s and High Wycombe CC to finish 3rd overall in the tournament.
The U9 teams hosted Gayhurst on Tuesday this week for some tight encounters. The U9 team recorded their first win on the season with a 3 run victory.
On Wednesday the U11A-D teams all played Gayhurst. All teams had a great afternoon with all four teams recording fantastic wins; a great way to finish the first half term!
News from the Chess Master
One of the joys of any teacher is hearing a lesson you have taught a pupil being quoted back to you at a later date. Such an occurrence took place this week at chess club as a boy reminded me that "Check means you have to get your king out of danger straight away! You can move your king, block the check or take the checking piece." - I could not have said it any better!
We have been tackling various problems with opening theory, with a small group of boys looking at the Italian opening (e4, e5, Nf3, Nc6, Bc4, Bc5), and one pupil trying to find a way of dealing with the rather annoying Budapest Gambit (d4, Nf6, c4, e5).
Another group of boys were playing matches against each other, whilst a third group used chromebooks to work on lichess - something all boys should be doing at home at least once a week so they are confident with their checkmates, forks, pins and skewers.
Well done boys. Enjoy the half term break.
