Step inside this place and what do you see … a final quiet moment, before the day accelerates, allows dreams of straight Roman roads heading off into the distance. An anachronistic electric gate whirrs open and returns me to the modern world...

Glaciers, climate change and expedition planning were hot topics of conversation when Year 2 Junior Girls visited Junior Boys for their ‘Polar Fun Day’ last week.
ISA National U11 Football Finals

Last week the Junior Boys U11A team visited St George’s Park to compete at the ISA National U11 Football Finals where they managed to finish as the 12th placed ISA U11 team in the country.

Our budding Year 2 artists from Junior Boys exercised their artistic flair when they  embodied the style of abstract painter Jackson Pollock.
News from the Sports Master
Last Friday 12 of our Year 6 pupils travelled to St. George’s Park (home of the England national team) to represent the region at the ISA National 5 a-side Football Championships. This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to play where the professional players train. Both teams performed really well on the day and while we did not bring any silverware home each team had their own triumphs through the day.

Sadly last Friday the heavens opened in Maidenhead just as The Beacon were pulling into our car park for Year 5 first cricket matches of the term.  Fingers crossed that they will get their first match under their belt this Friday.

Year 4 did manage to play for their first ever cricket matches.  The U9A came away from the afternoon not only having learnt a lot but with a resounding win.  While the B&C teams will have learnt a lot about the game from their first matches.

Sadly wet weather put paid to all the U11 fixtures on Wednesday.  Let's hope for better weather next week.

News from the Chess Master
Sunday saw the Maidenhead Megafinal take place at Desborough school. It was a long day and marked a step up in play for many of our Claires Court qualifiers; experience that should serve them all well for the future.

Congratulations to Tom Avazbakiev who secured qualification for the Gigafinal.

Entry for the Gigafinal can be done through the Delancey Chess website though, at the time of writing, entry had not opened.

EPSCA Semi-final
This Saturday 11 May, Claires Court will be taking part in the English Primary Schools Chess Association National Semi-finals being held at Bristol Grammar School.  More details to come, but all our best wishes go with our Under 9 and Under 11 teams.
