News from the Sports Master
The U11 teams were the first group to play fixtures this term as the whole of Year 6 took to the field against The Beacon. With these matches coming so early in the season, for many they were approached very much as training/coaching games. We knew that this would be a tough afternoon against difficult opposition so I am thrilled to report that across the four games we as a school gained two wins. Our U11A team found it difficult to keep their run rate up, while the U11B recorded a fantastic three wicket victory. The U11C team were comfortably up with three overs to play, to then go and lose two wickets (in pairs cricket every wicket costs the team 5 runs), thankfully they held onto win the game. The U11D team scored 70 runs but were outscored by the strong Beacon team.
The U10 teams all play The Beacon today and I will report on these next week. We also have both our U11A&B 5 a-side football teams representing the region at the ISA National Championships today at St George’s Park (home of the England national team). We wish them the best of luck and you will see the report on these teams next week.
News from the Chess Master
It has been a week of good news in the Chess Department.
Henry Paw in Year 2 has qualified for the Delancey Gigafinal! Henry came through a local Megafinal and can now move up to the regional level. Henry is the youngest Claires Court pupil so far to have won through to the Gigafinal this year. Very well done, Henry!
Josh Sharma left school early on Friday afternoon to make the journey up to Liverpool to play in an invitation only tournament - the Under 11 England trials. Josh had been nominated by Berkshire as their representative, and found himself up against the best players in the country at U11 level. Josh, a year younger than most attending, went through the tournament unbeaten. The competitors left Liverpool not knowing who would be selected, but I am delighted to announce that Josh received a telephone call from the England Head Arbiter on Monday evening offering him a place in the national team.
We are all absolutely delighted for you Josh, and are looking forward to hearing about your matches at home and abroad! |
