This week has brought a warm glow to my heart and not just because of the upturn in the weather.  It is just wonderful to be part of a school that looks outwardly and creates a culture where our young charges take responsibility and learn to...

Karate
On Wednesday the boys were treated to a superb demonstration of Karate by the boys in the after-school club. Sensei was able to show them some different aspects of the sport from sparring to Kata. We are looking to further expand our membership of this club, held on Fridays until 5pm and would welcome any new members from Year 1 upwards, next term. Karate will be featured in our sign-up for Activities which will be issued later in the month.

News from the Sports Master
It has been an incredibly busy week with a total of 24 matches being played across our U9, U10 and U11 teams.  On Tuesday afternoon in glorious sunshine our U9 teams hosted a triangular fixture with Davenies and Gayhurst. It was a fantastic afternoon of sport with some brilliant football on display. Across all teams we won 2, drew 4 and lost 2, so it proved to be a pretty even afternoon in terms of results. The U9A’s still remain unbeaten having only lost one game all season in a tournament. However, the players are extremely chatty off the field but on this particular afternoon the U9 players seemed to have forgotten how to communicate on it! Communication is certainly a target for the coming matches.

The U10 team travelled to Oratory Prep School for a triangular fixture with Pinewood. This proved to be a particularly low scoring afternoon, across the twelve matches played, only 5 goals were scored in total with many of the games ending up 0-0. Hopefully our U10 teams will find the net more often on Friday afternoon as we host many local schools in our U10 6 a-side tournament.

The U11 teams had an interesting afternoon with the U11A&B teams at home and the U11C&D teams away to Davenies. The U11B team had the best result of the afternoon with a hard fought 1-0 win. The U11D team were extremely unlucky in their match hitting the woodwork 4 times in the second half but failing to find the net. The U11A team had a very difficult afternoon and have learnt that working together and displaying positivity is the best way forward. The U11A&B teams will represent the school as we host The ISA regional U11 5 a-side tournament on Monday.

News from the Chess Master
Half term was a busy time for chess at Claires Court.

We hosted our first full Delancey qualifying tournament on Saturday 16 February where Siddhant Nayak became the first Claires Court pupil to qualify for the area Megafinal. Well done Siddhant!

This tournament was followed up with a Four County invitational match on Sunday 17 February where several Claires Court boys were asked to represent a Maidenhead team against Sussex, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Josh Sharma, Moksha Suriarachchi and Kanishka Suriarachchi all helped Maidenhead finish second - only just being pipped to the post by a strong Oxfordshire team - a fine performance.

This Saturday sees our rescheduled EPSCA invitational qualifying tournament. More news to come next week.

Remember boys - keep working on Lichess!
