News from the Sports Master
With no fixtures in this first full week the boys have been working hard to improve their skills while the coaches have been working with the boys to try and ensure that the correct teams are selected for next week. With fixtures starting next week please ensure your son has shin pads in his Games bag as he will not be able to play without them.

Our fixtures start on Tuesday 22 January with the U9 teams playing Thorpe House at home. Thorpe House only have two teams so our U9A and B teams will play Thorpe House U9A team with our U9C and D teams playing Thorpe House U9B team.

In a change to the fixture card on Wednesday 23 January our U11 teams have changed the location of their matches. The following will now happen:

U11A&B v The Beacon - Home KO 2.30pm
U11C&D v The Beacon - Away KO 2.30pm

The week will finish with our U10 teams also playing The Beacon. U10ABC teams playing away, U10DEF teams playing at home.

News from the Chess Master
Just one thing to mention this week. The Delancey chess competition will begin at break-time on Wednesday 23 January. We already have a great number of boys down to play. If your son would like to play and has not yet signed up he will need to do so by lunchtime on Monday as I will be arranging the draw for the first round on Monday afternoon.

The competition will run on Wednesday at first break for the next seven school weeks. Qualification for the area Megafinal can be earned through this competition, but it is perfect for some fun too!

News from the Art Room
House ART Competition 2019
Our first House Art Competition started as a figure drawing competition. All the boys in Year 3 to Year 6 had started to look at the uses of stick men drawings, and in particular, how to add knees, elbows and shoulders to their work. Then followed the news that Marvel founder, Stan Lee, had passed away. So, the much loved creator of Spider-man became the centre of our competition.  After the life drawing classes, came lessons on how to create movement, how to use foreshortening, and how to flesh out the characters. All boys produced a finished Marvel Character. We then split into houses and each class voted on the piece that would represent their house. The 32 pieces on display are the ones that were chosen.

The final pieces have been sent to Mr Wareing (Head of Art at Claires Court Senior Girls) and Ms Ackland-Snow (Claires Court Artist in Residence) to perform the unenviable task of deciding the winners for each house. They will be looking for excellent use of life drawing, effective lettering, impressive use of colour and the originality of the boys’ ideas. I will advising on the boys’ process.

Every boy has worked tirelessly to produce their pieces and it seems such a shame to have to ‘mark’ their work. So win, lose or draw, I have been extremely pleased with the way everyone has worked. Well done all!
