News from the Sports Master
With Year 6 away at Osmington Bay PGL and Year 5 not playing until Friday, it has been a relatively quiet week of sport. Year 4 took on St John’s Beaumont on Tuesday. It was a very competitive afternoon and all teams played well. The U9BC and D teams all excelled themselves and all completed fantastic wins.
Year 6 this week have been taking part in Geography and Science field studies on the south coast this week. The pupils have loved identifying species in rock pools and wading around in rivers and learning how to collect data such as flow rates and sediment size. When they haven’t been hands on learning they have enjoyed challenging themselves and learning teamwork skills through activities such as the giant swing, climbing wall, sensory trail and aeroball.
News from the Chess Master
I was showing my beginners group all about checkmates on Monday and then let them loose to practise. Very well done to Rory Adamson in Year 2 who was able to demonstrate checkmate with a King and Queen. Credit too to his brother Henry for helping him out by playing the lone King! I think the quote from Grand Master Kramnik says it all: Daily training makes us fighting fit. We could all learn from that...
Congratulations to Josh Sharma who won the U11 section of the Berkshire Junior Chess Open Tournament on Saturday over at Claires Court Senior Boys School. Josh also played in the U12 section at the Hampshire Junior Chess Congress and qualified for the London U12 Minor section. Moksha Suriarachchi was also playing at the Hampshire Junior Chess Congress and qualified for the U10 Minor section. Very well done, boys!
Remember, our Claires Court PTA Chess Festival is also a London Qualifying event! Entry Form
