News from the Sports Master
Last weekend saw all of Year 5 travel to Marchants Hill PGL centre for a weekend of outward bound activities. The emphasis of the weekend was to focus on group bonding and building on their teamwork skills through various challenges. The pupils got to experience a variety of activities such as raft building, hiking, jacobs ladder and orienteering. All pupils did extremely well in conditions that can only be described as challenging (it rained; a lot!). The staff members were extremely impressed with the pupils ‘can do’ spirit that was displayed by all.
The rains finally came last weekend, softening up the grounds enough for us to play contact rugby this week. This gave our U9 teams their first experience of tackling in competitive matches and by all accounts, they performed extremely well against arguably some of the toughest opposition they will face this term.
The U10 teams had a fantastic afternoon on Wednesday where they attended a mini festival at Caldicott. This was also attended by Oratory Prep and St John’s Beaumont. All our teams played extremely well with some great results across the board. As the afternoon was carried out in a festival format, no results were recorded and these will not appear on our website.
In a change to the fixture card next week, we will now see the U10A&B teams play away at Davenies on Friday 5 October.
The U11 hosted two teams from Thorpe House on Wednesday. So that all of our pupils were able to play, our U11A&B team played Thorpe House’s U11A team, with our U11C&D teams playing their U11B team, in 20 minute matches. This resulted in a very competitive afternoon with our U11A&C teams both picking up good wins and some tight matches involving our U11B&D teams.
