Reception had a special treat when Mrs Paw, a pupil’s Mum, visited to talk about her job.
News from the Sports Master
Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to all who attended the Sports Department fundraiser last Friday. The money raised will go toward helping improve the sports tours and outward bounds experiences that your sons get to enjoy.

The rain dance continues within the Sports Department in the hope that we will be able to play some full contact matches soon. The pupils are also very keen, however our pitches still remain bone dry and very hard and completely unsafe for contact rugby. However, we are watering a small area of the grounds so this has allowed us to do some tackling in training. Bearing this in mind please can you always ensure your son in Years 4, 5 and 6 always have a gum shield for all Games lessons.

The U9 teams have all now played two touch matches against St George's Weybridge and Davenies and had a very successful start to their competitive playing experience at CCJB. With the A, B and C teams all having recorded good wins this week.

The U11 teams got their season off the ground on Wednesday with matches against St George's Weybridge, with many tries scored across a range of teams it was a very successful afternoon.

News from the Chess Master
What a great first week back for Chess at Claires Court!

I took a group of young beginners through the wonders of lichess on Monday - not only working on how the pieces move, but how we as chess players need to think about the best order in which we act. Anyone can learn how to move pieces, but finding the best move takes time and skill and, of course, practice. This is where lichess is so good for chess players of all abilities. Like learning how to play the piano chess requires practice away from your lesson. Please do encourage your son to use this site and have a go at the exercises.

The 18th Claires Court PTA Chess Festival
Our annual London qualifying event is being held on Saturday 10 November 2018. An entry form is available from the Chess noticeboard or from clicking on the link. Thank you in advance to all those members of the PTA who, year on year, help make this such a successful event.

Chess lessons
As of writing there are now only two lesson slots remaining with Mr Tuck. These will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
