Coaches
Late coaches begin next week from Senior Boys onwards.

Reminders and a few changes
  • The Kiss and Drop service runs from 8.30am at the front of the school and there will be staff present to see the boys into school. If pupils arrive before this time they will join our Breakfast Club.
  • Junior Girls are able to be dropped off with us for Breakfast Club and will be transferred to the College Avenue site at 8.15am.
  • While you will have access to the staff email addresses, we would urge you to use the Homework Diary (Years 2-6) and Reading Record (Reception and Year 1) as the first point of contact with the form tutor. This is seen every morning, and any little notes or messages can be passed back and forth in these booklets.
  • Our Car Park remains too small, but hopefully our strategies to alleviate the bottleneck periods are working, and more will be introduced as we move through the term. I would ask that Reception and Year 1 use the pick up service on Wednesday and Friday afternoons at 3.30pm (at the front of the school) whenever possible, and the 4pm - 4.30pm stagger on Friday is still available for Years 2 - 6.
Monday 10 September Years 3-6 Curriculum Meetings
Parents with boys in Years 3-6 are invited to join us on Monday 10 September from 8.30am in the dining room for coffee followed by Curriculum Meetings in your son’s classroom.  This should be finished by 9.30am.
For Year 6 boys parents only: Mr Spanswick will be available in the mezzanine from 9.30am to answer any questions regarding onward schooling.

Tuesday 11 September Rec-Year 2 Curriculum Meetings
Parents with boys in Reception to Year 2 are invited to join us on Tuesday 11 September from 8.30am in the dining room for coffee followed by Curriculum Meetings in your son’s classroom.  This should be finished by 9.30am.

The booking system for after school activities is now available online. After School Care, Study, Homework Club, Rugby and  X-Country all start next week, all other activities will start the following week Monday 17 September.

Jeans for Genes - Friday 21 September
Junior Boys will be supporting this charity and we ask for a donation of £1 for the pleasure of wearing your jeans to school for the day.  This includes our staff too.

Paddle for Preemies
Huge congratulations to Daniel Gillespie, Assistant Head and SENCO, and his wife, Steph Gillespie, who have completed a demanding physical challenge of stand up paddle boarding from the source of the Thames to Windsor and Eton Bridge - 200km in total! They undertook the challenge to raise money for two charities, Wexham Park Neo-Natal Unit and Action Medical Research, who are both very close to their hearts following the premature birth of their daughter Freya. Please visit their Just Giving page if you’d like to donate or learn more about their challenge.

Charity Cycle Ride
Congratulations to Thomas Scargill, who, during the August Bank Holiday, cycled 117 miles in three days along the Grand Union Canal from Birmingham to London. Thomas achieved a personal best of 46 miles in a single day and raised £1,215.00 collectively for two of our school charities, Rosie’s Rainbow Fund and The Link Foundation. He even found time for some extreme reading! What a fantastic achievement and a lovely way of raising money. Well done Thomas!

Extended Day
This week our new Extended Care Provision commenced. Our Breakfast Club now includes a breakfast food offering, and our After School Care offers an afternoon tea. We have also changed our booking process at College Avenue for Junior Parents. For Nursery parents, we still ask that Mrs Wilding is informed of your child’s after school arrangements each day.

The reason for the change is to enable us to facilitate our food offer including dietary requirements, and to ensure that we have enough time to organise the staffing in order to adhere with staff:child ratio requirements.

This has all started very well and we would like to thank all of our parents for their support of our new booking system. We have had a couple of technical hiccups which should be fixed over the coming days, and thank you again all for your cooperation and patience. In light of feedback, we have adjusted our online booking (for Junior Parents) so that once your child has been booked in, this will stand for the whole term. Any necessary changes can be made up to 48 hours before the booked session online, anything after this needs to be communicated with your child’s Form Teacher or School Office.  If in doubt, please let your Form Teacher or Room Leader know what you would like your child’s after school arrangements to be. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

News from the Sports Master
A huge welcome back to all pupils and parents. We as staff are all looking forward to the rugby season ahead and fixture cards will be given out to all pupils over the next week and should arrive home shortly. Fixture details can also be found on the school's website under Sports Fixtures and Results in the Parents section.

With our first fixtures coming quickly, it was great to see so many Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils turn up to pre-season training. These three year groups all have fixtures next week, however, you will have already received an email stating that until our pitches have softened we will not be playing full contact rugby.  Bearing this in mind, the school will email you to inform you if the first set of fixtures will go ahead or not.

All Year 4 pupils and any new pupils in Year 5 will bring home a letter that details how we as a Sports Department go about selecting pupils for the various teams. Our aim is to always do what is best for the pupils to nurture them as individual sportsmen.

All pupils in Year 4, 5 and 6 will need a gum shield for every Games lesson. We would also like to encourage all base layers worn under rugby kit to be either black or dark blue. These two things will enable you son to be both safe and smart on the rugby field.

We look forward to seeing many parents on the sidelines supporting their sons and the school through the course of this term.

News from the Chess Master
Welcome back to all our chess players. We have enjoyed our most successful year ever of chess at Claires Court and I hope we can build on this success.

We have said goodbye to several strong players but I am looking forward to our younger boys stepping up to take their place.

As so many boys from last year's Year 6 had lessons with Mr Tuck there are still slots available. These lessons are excellent for boys of all abilities, and the incredible progress the boys make is testament to Mr Tuck's ability. If you would like to reserve a lesson for your son please contact me on rih@clairescourt.net.

Well done to all our boys who have been playing chess over the summer. Special mention to Josh Sharma who broke through to a rating of 107A in the latest ECF grading lists.
