What a wonderful week! My word, your sons are talented! They really are. I have been blown away by some of the work I have been presented with, star struck at some of the beautiful artwork that has been shown to me, deafened by the singing...

Rabbits
Rabbit winners this week are Haider-Ali Baig and Eren Bartlett. Haider-Ali has been giving up some of his own time to help younger boys in the playground with their cricket, and he is someone who is a wonderful ambassador for our school and Our Golden Rules. Eren has also been a super role model for the younger pupils this week, and he has been helping some Year 1 boys when they get onto the coach at the end of the day. Two very worthy winners of the rabbit award, well done chaps!

Charity Week Funds
Reminder. Please can any remaining sponsorship or fundraising money be returned to the school office as soon as possible so we can let you have a final total and arrange the presentations to our nominated charities.  Thank you.

Nursery Plea – Bolt the Nursery Gate behind you
Mrs Wilding is aware that some parents and carers are forgetting to push the bolt across to secure the Nursery gate. Whenever you enter or leave it is imperative that you slide the bolt to secure the gate for the safety of your child and other children. This applies to all hours including ‘Before and After School Care’ times.

Whole School Photograph
All our whole school photographs will soon be available to order online through Tempest Groups. Type Claires Court into the search criteria box, then enter the password burgundy on the following page and choose the relevant photo.  The framed picture will be on display in school early next week.

Moulin Rouge Ball
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the annual ball on Saturday. Despite a wet start, the rain held off for the evening and we hope everyone had a good time. We have a few lost property items: several umbrellas, lipsticks, a gold kilt pin, a black cardigan and a bow tie. Please contact pta.ccgs@gmail.com or text Anna on 07793 022828.

Save the Date
After an amazing PTA Moulin Rouge Ball, thank you to all who organised, attended and supported in any way (it was truly a memorable occasion). Please now put the FETE date in your diary. On Saturday 23 June, from 12pm to 4pm, Junior Boys will be hosting the ‘Great British Summer Fete’.

News from the Sports Master
It's been another busy week of sporting fixtures. Last Friday all our U10 teams played Davenies. With some tight fixtures the closest game came from the U10B who were unlucky to lose by just two runs.

Tuesday saw the U9 teams take on The Beacon, well most of the U9 teams. With a small mix up with venues The Beacon U9A ended up in the wrong location. All the rest of the teams enjoyed a successful afternoon with our U9B team recording an excellent 25 run victory.

On Wednesday both U10 and U11 teams played the local rivals St Piran’s. While our A team had a tough afternoon the U10B and U11B teams recorded excellent wins.  The U10C recorded an outstanding victory winning by 109 wins.

This week’s Team of the Week goes to:
Batting
U9         Kida Zhu
U10       Ishraj Sammara
U11       Oscar Helm

News from the Chess Master
EPSCA What a day that was!

Very well done to those boys (and parents too) who took part in the English Primary Schools' Chess Association Semi-Final at Bristol Grammar School on Saturday 12 May. All the boys represented the school in an exemplary manner - something far more important than the chess itself.

The Under 11 team included: Teo Rybak, Nayan Popat, Tavish Gangwani, Haider-Ali Baig, Samuel Jeffery and Joshua Spanswick. These boys picked up some notable wins over other schools and I hope that the Year 6 boys, who will be leaving CCJB in July, will take their skill and enthusiasm for the game with them into their secondary schools. Boys - if there is a chess club, join it. If there isn't, start one!

The Under 9 team included: Houning (Kida) Zhu, Josh Sharma, Moksha Suriarachchi, Aaran Hitschmann, Tom Avezbakiev and Kanishka Suriarachchi. Led by 5/5 from Kida on Board 1, the Under 9s kept themselves in contention throughout and finished 2nd from 42 teams - earning their place in the National Final; an all-play-all of the top eight chess schools in the country.

Whilst I have been insisting for some time that Claires Court is up there with the best, it is the first time we have made the final eight, so I was delighted that Mrs Goford, Mrs Payne, Mr Dennis and Mr Spanswick were all there to share in the boys' success. Mr Tuck was getting regular updates by text and I would like to thank him for his hard work with the two teams.

Congratulations boys - we are very proud of you. The final will be on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th July.

Berkshire Megafinal
Another Saturday means another tournament! Good luck to all those Claires Court boys heading over to Newbury this Saturday to play in the Delancey Megafinal. I will see you all there!
