Book Club News: Carnegie and Greenaway Book Awards
The shortlists for the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals, the UK's oldest and most prestigious children's book awards have been announced! Run by The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) the Carnegie Medal is awarded for an outstanding book for children and young people and the Kate Greenaway Medal is presented to an outstanding book in terms of illustration. Often described by authors and illustrators as 'the one they want to win', they are the gold standard in children's literature.
We will be shadowing both these book awards in Junior and Senior Book clubs next term, until the winner is announced in June. Girls will be asked to read all the shortlisted books, evaluate their favourites and finally vote for their own Medal winner. For more information see http://www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/ or come and see the shortlisted books in the Libraries. A great idea for a holiday read!
Book Club Shadowing Sessions:
Junior Book Club (Years 3&4): Tuesday lunch time
Junior Book Club (Years 5&6): Wednesday lunch time
Senior Book Club (Years 7-11): Tuesday lunch time
Holiday Reading? Find a Fantastic Female!
Looking for strong female role models in your reading? To celebrate International Women’s Day earlier this month, the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education has chosen their favourite books for younger readers featuring independent girl characters. Download the free booklist here.
A list of books for older children focusing on women's history is also available, created to celebrate Women’s History Month. See here.

Activities
Summer term activities will remain open for online registration via the Activities Hub (activities.clairescourt.net) until 9.00am on Monday 26 March.
Closing registration prior to the end of term will enable staff to ensure any organisational matters for the activity groups can be resolved before the holiday.
Activities will begin on Monday 23 April 2018
.
Any pupil travelling home on the bus must be signed up for an activity, study session or pre-prep after school care. Pupils not staying after school must register as “Going Home”, ensuring that our “after-hours” fire lists are correct.
If you have any queries, please direct them to activities@clairescourt.net rather than calling the school offices as this will avoid any delay.
Recycling Competition - get creative!
Following a request by our Pupil Voice representatives, new recycling bins will be placed in each classroom. To personalise them, we are running a competition asking girls to design a sticker to promote recycling.
More information and entry template here
Closing date Friday 20 April, so plenty of time over Easter to get creative! The winners will be chosen by our Pupil Voice representatives.
