Mr Spanswick's Words Lent 11
Well, it’s been a fairly standard week at school. Nothing much occurring...except that we were treated to arguably the most engaging, humbling and emotional performance on Tuesday evening, from our Year 5 and 6 boys and girls, along with...

Rabbits
Our rabbit winners this week are Tyler King in Year 1 and Harry Burfitt in Reception. Both Harry and Tyler have been following their Golden Rules very well this week. They have shown great concern over the wellbeing of their peers and they are always extremely polite. Both boys are worthy winners of the Rabbits this week.

Charity Fundraising Events
The charity events at break times have raised a staggering £1,460.03 for our charities. Thank you all for your delicious cakes, inventive games and generosity.

Please ensure all orders are returned to the School Office by Monday 26 March.

Activities
Summer term activities will remain open for online registration via the Activities Hub (activities.clairescourt.net) until 9.00am on Monday 26 March. Closing registration prior to the end of term will enable staff to ensure any organisational matters for the activity groups can be resolved before the holiday.

Activities will begin on Monday 23 April 2018.

Any pupil travelling home on the bus must be signed up for an activity, study session or pre-prep after school care. Pupils not staying after school must register as “Going Home”, ensuring that our “after-hours” fire lists are correct.

If you have any queries, please direct them to activities@clairescourt.net rather than calling the school offices as this will avoid any delay.

News from the Sports Master
Last Friday the weather was glorious, the sun was out, it was a pleasant 13 degrees and we were able to hold our U10 6 a-side tournament that had already been postponed from the earlier snowy weather. We had 20 teams in total attend and we entered an U10A&B team. The U10B team had an excellent afternoon holding both Davines and Belmont A teams to 0-0 draws. This was enough to take them through to the Plate competition where they were unlucky to meet a very strong Caldicott team in the semi-finals. The U10A team played really well through the group stages winning three of their four matches against Gayhurst, Belmont and Herries schools. Finishing second in their group was enough to take them through to the main Cup competition where they met Berkhamsted in the quarter-finals. Despite a strong performance, Berkhamsted pipped us with one late goal. The strong Berkhamsted team went on to win the Cup competition.

The weather turned overnight and we saw a whole host of sporting events cancelled at the last minute. The Year 3 House Football Tournament, U10A&B OPS tournament, U11 Caldicott rugby 7s and the ISA National Cross Country all were casualties to the weather.

I was hugely thankful that by Tuesday the snow had thawed and the U9 teams were able to play their last fixture of the term against St John’s Beaumont. The U9 C&D teams both finished the season with good wins while the U9E team finished with a draw against the St John’s Beaumont U10D team.

On Wednesday the U11A team went to a 7 a-side tournament at Dair House School. The team played superbly well not only winning all their group matches but didn't concede a goal in the process. Consequently they won their group taking them straight through to the final where they beat Crown House to bring home the trophy and medals. Hopefully this will fill them full of confidence playing in the  U11 ISA National 5 a-side tournament today. For a full report please see Mr Goddard’s report under our Latest News section.

News from the Chess Master
EPSCA
With all the snow around last weekend I was not expecting our qualification tournament to be cancelled due to the sickness of the organiser! This leaves us in an uncertain position regarding Bristol, as the organisers are currently mulling over the rules whilst I gently bombard them with emails. I will, of course, let people know what is happening when I hear their ruling.

The Maidenhead Junior Chess Congress is being held here at Claires Court Junior Boys on Friday 13 April. Entry forms can be plucked off the Chess noticeboard or can be downloaded though the Maidenhead Chess website link: Maidenhead Junior Chess Congress.

Delancey qualification
Congratulations to those boys who have already earned qualification for the county Megafinal. A list is up on the Chess noticeboard.

Monday's termly tournament is another opportunity to qualify. Thank you to those boys (and parents) who got their entry forms in by today's deadline. The electronic draw will be made on Saturday. There will be a tuck shop available so feel free to let your son have some change to buy some snacks.
