As the weather gets colder, may we take this chance to remind our parents of the School’s Emergency Closure Guidance in case we need to close the School due to adverse weather conditions.
Christmas Lunch
Our wonderful kitchen staff have been making preparations for our festive Christmas Lunch which will take place on Friday 8 December. Take a look at the Senior & Sixth Form Christmas Lunch Menu
This year, you only need to let us know if your child
- will not be eating Christmas lunch and is bringing a packed lunch
- has dietary needs we need to consider.
If this is the case, please complete the Sixth Form Christmas Lunch form by Wednesday 29 November.
Y12 Careers Resources Evening - Thursday 16 November
On Thursday evening, Mrs Rogers spoke to a group of Year 12 parents about the careers resources that students will be introduced to next term. The power combination of UCAS and apprenticeships was explored. There are many resources available on the Parents section of the school website under Careers Advice, Post 18 Options. These include information on apprenticeships, and many sites on careers such as HEAP, SACU, eCLIPS, Kudos and Plotr. Another useful website worth looking at and mentioned on the evening is www.prospects.ac.uk. Beth Lane from NCS also came to speak to parents about the value of NCS to employers and university applications. Information about NCS is available on www.ncsthechallenge.org.
Visiting speaker – Gill Aspel
On Monday 13th November, Year 12 & Year 13 students were fortunate enough to be paid a visit from photographer Gill Aspel. We were shown examples of her work ranging from her earlier photographs to her most recent ones featuring the Royal Family. Gill spoke about her connections with Windsor Castle, the Windsor Festival and her work photographing the Queen, which was particularly interesting for us all to hear about. Gill also brought in memorabilia of her holidays with stunning photographs for us all to see, including the use of 3D photography of which we got to learn about and see first-hand. As well as giving us an insight into her work, she also gave us advice reference to our own photographs by providing us with alternate and different pathways within photography that we could explore and become creative with.

Assembly – Frontier Gap Years
Silvia from Frontier came to talk to us about gap years. Gap years can be from 1 week to a year and they can impress admissions tutors and employers alike if they are selfless, meaningful and worthwhile. Students can work as animal care volunteers, teach abroad or help with wildlife conservation, protecting endangered species in the wild. Further information can be found at www.frontier.ac.uk.
UK University & Apprenticeship Search Fair, Friday 2nd March, Emirates Stadium
This informative and inspirational higher education and careers fair is perfect for Year 12s who are thinking about apprenticeships. It will feature a very large and diverse selection of apprenticeship providers. The Milkround School Leavers Apprenticeship Hall will feature some of the UK’s top apprenticeship providers, including Ernst & Young, PwC, Channel 4, IBM, Accenture and Grant Thornton to name but a few and there will be Apprenticeship Seminars, including information on Higher and Degree Apprenticeships. This is suitable for students considering apprenticeships only, as Year 12 students will be visiting a UCAS Higher Education Conference in March with Mrs Rogers.
