| | From the Office | Important Announcement
Earlier this week the Principals made an exciting announcement about important developments at Claires Court. The full letter to parents can be found here. However in summary:
It is the School’s long-term vision to have a new, single campus alongside our Junior Boys site at Ridgeway. In recent weeks our aspiration has moved closer to reality and as such we are seeking to submit plans shortly. We will of course keep you well informed of the timeline once we have firmer detail.
To facilitate this development there will be a change of Senior Leadership at Claires Court. Justin Spanswick is stepping down as Head of Junior Boys at the end of this academic year to take on a corporate role to support the Academic Principal. His role, working across all sites alongside the current headteachers, will encompass strategic and compliance matters, including pupil recruitment and scholarships, new campus implications and parental engagement, overview of operational management and designated safeguarding lead.
We are now actively seeking to appoint a new Head to take on the leadership and management of Junior Boys, with effect from September 2018. The new Head will be fully supported by Justin to facilitate a smooth transition into post and to ensure our School values, ethos and learning philosophy continue to be at the forefront of his successor’s vision for the pupils, parents and staff of Junior Boys.
As Winter Approaches
As the weather gets colder, may we take this chance to remind our parents of the School’s Emergency Closure Guidance in case we need to close the School due to adverse weather conditions.
Unforgettables - Notes on Yesteryear 17 & 18 November
Join our senior and sixth form pupils for an evening of cabaret and prosecco. There are a few tables remaining for our senior production. Individual tickets £10 each are also available if you are happy to share a table! For further information on the production and how to book please visit our website http://www.clairescourt.com/the-unforgettables
Visiting speaker – Denis Savostiyanov & Jason Cresswell from Cisco
Denis and Jason came to speak to the Sixth Form is assembly about current technical trends, in particular Big Data, AI/machine learning and Internet Security. Just one smart phone can send huge amounts of data. For example, using big data, a Credit card company can analyse and understand the behaviour of its high value customers. Machine learning is getting computers to act without explicitly being programmed. In the past decade, this has given us self-driving cars, practical speech recognition and effective web searches. In healthcare, this can give us effective patient diagnosis, in finance it can help with fraud detection and it can forecast demand for future transportation. Internet Security is very big business with millions of transactions being made over the internet every day. Jason reminded us all to be mindful of the data we all make available on social media. It is a very exciting area with lots of changes being made as hackers find new ways to access our personal details. There is a massive cyber security skills gap and will be a global shortage of cyber security professionals of over 2 million by 2019. |
| | | Trips and Letters Home | Y12 Introduction to Careers Resources, Thursday 16 November, 6pm in the Chapel
Mrs Rogers is looking forward to seeing Y12 parents at this informal evening to learn more about the choices open to students post 18 years and to get ‘hands on’ experience of the many and varied resources now available. She will be looking at resources such as ‘HEAP’, ‘SACU’, ‘Plotr’, ‘eCLIPS’ and ‘Kudos’. This is an evening for parents only as students will be learning about this after Christmas. If you Please
Rugby Dinner
Every year we have an annual rugby dinner. We use this event to celebrate the end of the season and to recognise the players by handing out awards. This is a popular event, and is open for parents, students and friends of the school to attend. There will be a fully licenced bar open throughout the evening and a hog roast or a vegetarian option available too. Entertainment will include music and a silent auction for some signed England rugby kit. There is a limit to numbers so if you want to attend make sure you get a ticket asap. A letter with booking information will be sent home soon. All of the money we raise will go towards helping support the rugby tour to Canada next summer. The date of this event is Friday 8th December. We have arranged this as a BTEC group and we hope you all can attend.
