During this morning’s assembly I showed our boys a video clip of Derek Redmond’s 400 metre Olympic final race from the 1992 Olympics. I thought it may be an apt theme for our Sports Day today. For those of you who might be unaware of...

Rabbits
The Rabbit winners this week are Alex Peach 5S and Ross D'Alessandro 4Y. Both boys are to be congratulated on their excellent manners, attitude towards lessons and the way that they follow our Golden Rules. Several teachers have commented about these two boys. They both thoroughly deserve to win the Rabbit Awards this week.

News from the Sports Master
This week saw the last of this term’s cricket fixture as all of Year 6 were involved in matches or tournaments. Our U11s took a team to the Berkhamsted  6-a-side tournament, they played extremely well during the day to win thee out of their five matches to finish third overall - (see the news below for a full report). The remaining U11A&B team played a fun internal game, but by all accounts the standard of cricket was outstanding. The U11C&D welcomed Herries to round off their season, with both games finishing very closely. The U11C team winning by a single run and the U11D team losing by just 11 runs.

As I write this the day before Sports Day, knowing that it will be read after the event. I sit here with my fingers crossed hoping that you have all enjoyed a dry, happy and eventful day of athletics.

News from the Chess Master
Summer Tournament Monday 3rd July 2-6pm
Thank you to all those boys who have entered our Summer Term tournament to be held on Monday (3rd July). Due to our electronic draw being made in advance, entry is now closed. All those entries that were with me today have been included in the draw.

On an exciting note, for the first time in the history of our internal tournaments we may well have some visitors from Claires Court Junior Girls! Mr Hugh Wilding has been working with the new chess club at CCJG and feels they are ready to lay down a challenge to the boys. I had the opportunity last week to go and see them play... Boys... watch out!

Online Training - I try to take about 15-20 minutes every day to do a bit of training online. lichess.org is a good place to start. All levels of chess player are catered for and, which is more, IT'S FREE! Beginners should look at how the pieces move efficiently. Improvers should try and complete all the practice sessions. More advanced players (once happy with all stages above) should click on "Training" and try and solve the puzzles. See how high you can push your online rating!
